Community Service

On my honor, I will do my best
To do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law;
To help other people at all times;
To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight.

A Scout is: Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent.

The Scout Oath and Law, which Scouts recite every week, prescribe a certain way of life.  Duty to country and a promise to be helpful manifest themselves through community service.  Community service projects remind the larger community what Scouting is all about. These projects help scouts develop their leadership skills through public service.  Scouting requires a certain amount of community service to advance through the ranks from Tenderfoot to Eagle.

Our service projects include:

Supporting our Chartering Organization, Pinnacle Lutheran Church, at their Chicken BBQs and Advent and Lenten Dinners

The national "Scouting for Food" drive

Maintenance and upkeep of the Lehigh Valley Trail

Supporting the Henrietta Relay for Life cancer fundraising event of the American Cancer Society

Supporting the Guardian Angel's Lenten Fish Fry Dinners

Service is also a personal endeavor.  The Boy Scout Slogan, "Do a Good Turn Daily!", reminds us that Scouting's founder, Baden-Powell, believed that the daily good turn is the main duty God asks of us, and that fulfilling our duty to others makes us happy.  This, in turn, fulfills the duty to ourselves.  The point is not so much the deed itself, which could be small and simple, but to teach Scouts to always pay attention and recognize opportunities to be helpful.
